Why a small carabiner matters

Small carabiners earn their place through convenience. They are light, compact and easy to clip, which makes them handy for racking gear, attaching accessories, organising kit and light-duty connections. Some are rated for load, others are accessory carabiners meant for holding gear rather than people. Knowing the difference matters, because a small accessory carabiner is not a substitute for a rated life-safety connector.

Pick the right small carabiner for the job and it becomes one of the most-used clips in your kit.

How our small carabiners are different

We are an independent height safety specialist, so we stock small carabiners from the brands we trust, in rated and accessory options, locking and non-locking.

The key is matching the carabiner to the role. For gear and accessories, an accessory carabiner is fine. For any load-bearing or life-safety connection, use a rated, certified carabiner and check the strength in kilonewtons (kN). We will help you get that right.

For load-rated connectors and other sizes, see our all connectors, locking carabiners, alloy carabiners and oval carabiners.

How to choose the right small carabiner for you

  1. Rated or accessory. For load or life-safety, use a rated carabiner. For holding gear and accessories, an accessory carabiner is fine.
  2. Locking or non-locking. Use locking for connections that must not open. Non-locking suits quick gear clipping.
  3. Size versus strength. Smaller usually means lower strength. Make sure the rating suits the job.
  4. Check the marking. A rated carabiner shows its strength. If there is no rating, treat it as accessory only.
