Fall Arrest Devices
A fall arrest device is a self-locking device that functions to arrest a person’s fall. There are three distinct categories of fall arrest devices. They are the Type 1, the Type 2 and the Type 3 and have very different functions. At Height Dynamics, we stock industry-trusted fall arrest systems for construction, rope access, and confined space work. Shop fall arrest devices online in Australia and get the right gear for the job.

Why fall arrest devices matter
A harness and an anchor are not enough on their own. Between them sits the device that does the actual arresting, a self-retracting block, a ladder cable grab, or a similar mechanism that stays out of the way until you fall or load it suddenly, then locks to stop you. Get this part of the system right and a fall becomes a controlled stop instead of a long drop.
Match the device to the anchor, the rope or cable, and the fall clearance you have, and the whole system does what it is meant to.
How our fall arrest devices are different
We are an independent height safety specialist, so we stock fall arrest devices chosen for real performance, from trusted brands rather than a single supplier.
Every device is rated and built to meet the relevant Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1891, so you can match it to your system with confidence. And because we work at height ourselves, we can help you work out which type of device suits your anchor, your access method and your fall clearance.
How to choose the right fall arrest device for you
- Match it to the anchor. Ladder systems, fixed lifelines and rope access all need different devices. Start with what you are connecting to.
- Check fall clearance. Confirm you have enough clearance below for the device to arrest a fall before you hit a lower level.
- Fixed or mobile. Some devices travel with you along a cable or rope, others are fixed at a single point. Choose for how you move.
- Rating. Confirm the device is rated for your load and compatible with the rest of your system.
FAQs about Fall Arrest Devices
What is a fall arrest device?
A component in a fall protection system, such as a self-retracting block, ladder cable grab or rope grab, that stays inactive until you fall and then locks to arrest it.
What is the difference between a fall arrest device and a lanyard?
A lanyard is the connecting line to your anchor. A fall arrest device is the mechanism that actually locks and stops a fall, which may be built into a lanyard, block or grab.
Are these devices compliant in Australia?
We supply fall arrest devices built to meet the relevant Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 1891. Always check the rating on the specific device.
Do I need to check fall clearance before choosing a device?
Yes. You need enough clearance below you for the device to arrest a fall safely. Ask us if you are unsure how to calculate it.
Can you help me match a device to my system?
Yes. Tell us your anchor, your access method and your fall clearance and we will help you choose the right device.
