Why fall protection anchor points matter

An anchorage point is what the whole system loads in a fall. Your harness and lanyard only work if they connect to a point that can take the force, on the right part of the structure, in the right position for the work. That covers permanent roof anchors, temporary and portable anchors, beam anchors and clamps, and anchor straps and slings that wrap structure. Each suits a different job, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Match the anchor to the structure and the task, and everything above it can do its job.

How our height safety anchors are different

We are an independent height safety specialist, so we stock anchors chosen for real work, from trusted brands rather than whatever one supplier pushes.

Every anchor is rated and built to meet the relevant Australian Standards for its type, including AS/NZS 5532 where it applies. And because anchor selection depends on the structure, we help you match the fixing to steel, metal roofing, concrete or timber rather than guessing.

How to choose the right anchor point for you

  1. Start with the structure. Steel beams take beam anchors and straps. Metal roofs, concrete and timber each need their own fixings. The structure decides the anchor.
  2. Temporary or permanent. Temporary and portable anchors suit short-term jobs. Permanent anchors suit ongoing access and must be installed and certified correctly.
  3. Restraint or fall arrest. The duty changes the rating and position the anchor needs. Be clear which your task calls for.
  4. Position and clearance. Anchor location affects swing, fall distance and clearance below. Plan the point for the work, not just the structure.

FAQs about Fall Protection Anchors

What is an anchorage point?

The rated point your fall protection system connects to. It has to suit the structure and take the load of a fall, which is why anchor selection matters as much as the harness.

What is a beam anchor or beam strap?

An anchor that clamps to or wraps around a structural beam, giving you a rated connection point on steelwork. Beam clamps adjust to the beam width, while straps and slings wrap the member.

What is the difference between temporary and permanent anchor points?

Temporary anchors install quickly for short-term work and come away after the job. Permanent anchors are fixed to the structure for ongoing access and must be installed and certified correctly.

Do anchor points need inspection?

Yes. Anchors need regular inspection, and permanent anchors need periodic recertification. Check the requirements for your system and keep records.
