Why a work positioning lanyard matters
Positioning and fall arrest are not the same thing.
A work positioning lanyard supports you in a set spot so you can lean back and work hands-free, on a pole, a tower or a structure. It keeps you stable and saves your energy. It is not designed to arrest a free fall on its own, so it works alongside your fall arrest system, not instead of it.
Get the right one and the difference is immediate. You stop fighting to stay in place and start getting the work done.
How our work positioning lanyards are different
As an independent specialist, we stock positioning lanyards from the brands we trust, in adjustable and fixed lengths, in rope and webbing. So you get the one that suits your work, not whatever a single supplier pushes.
Our lanyards are built to the relevant Australian Standards for work positioning, with hard-wearing materials and adjusters that lock where you set them and move when you want them to. You feel the quality in the grip of the adjuster and the smoothness of the rope.
And we use this gear ourselves. If you are deciding between a fixed length and an adjustable lanyard, or rope versus webbing, ask us. We work in these every day.
How to choose the right work positioning lanyard for you
- Adjustable or fixed. Adjustable lanyards let you fine-tune your position and reach. Fixed length is simple and predictable. Most workers moving around a structure prefer adjustable.
- Length. Match it to how far you need to reach and lean. Too long and you lose control, too short and you cannot get into position.
- Material. Rope adjusts smoothly and is easy to handle. Webbing is flat and compact. Both have their place.
- The full system. A positioning lanyard supports you. It does not replace fall arrest. Make sure your setup includes proper fall protection too.
FAQs about Work Positioning Lanyards
What does a work positioning lanyard do?
It holds you in a stable, hands-free position at height so you can work, for example leaning back off a pole or tower. It supports you in place rather than letting you move freely.
Is a positioning lanyard the same as a fall arrest lanyard?
No. A positioning lanyard holds your position. It is not designed to arrest a free fall on its own. You still need a separate fall arrest system.
Adjustable or fixed length, which should I get?
Adjustable lanyards suit most positioning work because you can dial in your reach and position. Fixed length is simpler when your working distance does not change.
Rope or webbing?
Rope adjusts smoothly and handles well for positioning. Webbing is flat and packs down. Choose based on how you work and what feels right in the hand.
