Why a rope jammer matters
A jammer, or ascender, is the grip in every rope ascent system. The toothed cam lets the device slide up the rope freely, then bites the sheath the moment it is loaded downward. In rope access, the classic ascent pairs a hand jammer with a footloop and a chest ascender on the harness, so the climber moves up the line in steps while staying captured on the rope. The same grip makes jammers useful in hauling and rigging systems. Smooth up, solid stop. That is the whole job.
How our rope jammers are different
We are an independent height safety specialist, so we stock hand jammers and ascenders from the brands rope techs run, including Petzl.
Every device is rated for its duty, with a stated rope diameter range that we help you match, a jammer only grips properly on rope it is designed for.
How to choose the right rope jammer for you
- Hand or chest. A hand jammer with a footloop drives the ascent. A chest ascender keeps you captured and upright on the line. Most rope access ascents use both together.
- Match the rope diameter. Check the device's stated rope range against your lines. Outside it, grip suffers.
- Left or right. Hand jammers come handed. Pick the side that suits how you climb, or run one of each in a team kit.
- System compatibility. The jammer connects to footloops, lanyards and carabiners. Choose the pieces to work together, and ask us to check the setup.
