How to Choose the Right Abseiling Rope
Start with what you are actually doing with it.
If the rope is for industrial abseiling or rope access descent, you are usually looking for a low-stretch rope, not a dynamic climbing rope. If you are shopping for general climbing use, that is a different decision.
Then check the length. The rope needs to suit the full descent and the way the job is being set up. Too short and the rest of the discussion is over.
After that, look at the descender. Rope diameter needs to suit the device you are using, because that changes how the rope feeds, how much control you get and how the system feels once it is loaded.
Then comes handling. Some ropes just run better than others in a working system. The right rope should feed cleanly, feel predictable and give you good control on descent.
If it does not suit the job, the descender or the way you need it to handle, it is the wrong rope.
